Presumably, Microsoft will offer different versions of Office 2019 (including a version for the Apple Mac), but executives didn't say. Microsoft calls Office 2019 a suite of 'perpetual' apps. If you purchase Office 2016 or the recently released Office 2019, you do not have to renew every year since you own that copy. You buy, you own it. If you subscribe to Office 365, then you will have to renew Office 365 every year.
Macs don't come with that type of apps, so you have to purchase them. There are three options, but there are more if you want to have a look at these applications:
